Good Morning
Story:
Sylvia Wiggins may no longer be in the perfect relationship, but she's determined to
land her dream job. Well rehearsed and perfectly groomed, Sylvia expects her morning
interview to go off without a hitch. When her master plan comes to an abrupt halt,
Sylvia finds herself trapped with a calamity from her past. To her surprise, she
finds a friend where she least expects to and a part of herself she had forgotten.
Director's Statement:
When done in its truest form, filmmaking is a collaborative art form with MANY participants. The end credits of the film prove that this short film was indeed a big group effort. I want to thank the cast, crew, and all of the donors for their dedication and generosity to this project. Even though the film is only twenty short minutes, hundreds of hours were spent to see it through to its completion. It was an honor and delight to be part of such a savvy and talented team of creative professionals.
Through a nonprofit program, Story Board's On-Location Academy , thirteen area high school students also participated in the project as apprentices. By the third day of production, students were bustling on the set with their mentors and helping in every way they could. The last shot of the film, a crane shot, was actually done by the apprentices. It was exciting to see them all blossom in their own way and witness their excitement for filmmaking become even stronger. Mentors have made a significant impact in my life, for which I am very grateful. I encourage the OLA students to continue to seek out mentors to support them in their craft.
'Good Morning' was inspired during a time of transition in my professional life. At age 33 I found myself going through a career change, equally as painful as my adolescent years of head-gear and bad perms. My resume, showcasing my eclectic skill-set, only seemed to confuse potential employers. I had spent all of my twenty-something years being so ambitious; where was my reward? The angst of it all inspired me to write…
And such is the struggle of life. Like Sylvia Wiggins in 'Good Morning,' we often expect to be rewarded for our good behavior and hard work. We associate happiness with our accomplishments. But what if the expected accomplishments do not come?
Sylvia Wiggins' journey in 'Good Morning' reminds me that what I think I need, or deserve, or want for my life isn't always what is best for my future. Like Sylvia, my journey towards perspective has indeed been humbling, but also very humorous. And even when situations do not appear ideal, I have come to realize that everything does work out in the end.
